Sticky ears and hairy paws

pippy chewToday Pippy and I went on a little trip to our local Pets at Home to buy a chew to keep her occupied when I had a visitor later.

Some people might argue about how personal a big chain like Pets at Home is, but our branch is great.  The guy who served us today remembered Pippy from last week, when we’d made an emergency visit to the Groom Room, to have half a field full of dead thistles combed out of her ears.  She was looking considerably more glamorous today!

I bought a “handmade” rawhide pressed bone, as Pippy generally quite likes a rawhide chew.  However, when we got home she spent far more time jumping around and throwing it in the air than chewing it, so it hasn’t turned out to be a particularly good buy so far.  Glad I didn’t buy a pack of 8!

After a walk in the park to chase the squirrels and pigeons we came home and had a visit from Pippy’s mum’s owner.  Almost the first thing she said was that she should have brought her scissors to trim Pippy’s feet!  She showed me what to do and I have now done it (a bribe of a biscuit per foot worked).  Irish Setters are a breed that have “feathers” of long hair along their legs, underneath their tummies and even in between their toes – and this was what Julie recommended I trim, to help to protect against uncomfortable knots and grass seeds etc getting caught there.

So this week we’ve had a combination of a little bit of professional grooming and a little bit of mum’s amateur snipping, too.
